Awards include Air Medal with 17 OLC, Army Commendation Medal for Heroism, Purple Heart, Soldier Medal for Heroism. The latter two he earned for his attempt to rescue LOH pilots Borr and Denney who crashed near LZ Two Bits. After the crash, the aircraft burned. Lee tried to stop the fire with buckets of water he got from a nearby well, but he was unable to save their lives. Lee was seriously burned.
